Unforeseen delays push pool opening to 2025; Coquitlam provides summer fun options
The City of Coquitlam remains dedicated to offering accessible, sustainable, and safe facilities that fulfill the community’s needs. Spring 2023 marked the beginning of renovations on the 52-year-old outdoor pool in Mundy Park, slated to open in summer 2024.
Due to unexpected delays, the planned opening of the Mundy Park pool has been postponed. The city expresses disappointment at being unable to meet the summer deadline, recognizing the inconvenience for community members.
To counter this delay, Coquitlam is introducing a range of complimentary and reduced-cost activities throughout the summer. These include free admission at the Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool, featuring amenities like lane swimming and a picnic area.
Residents can also enjoy ‘Water Play Pop-Ups’ organized by the city’s recreation team, offering activities such as inflatable waterslides and relay games at local parks. More details are available on the city’s website.
A discounted Summer Child and Youth Pass, usually priced at $25, is now $10, granting unlimited access to Coquitlam’s drop-in activities for those under 18.
Additionally, Coquitlam residents can access extended hours at the Coquitlam Bettie Allard YMCA, with 20 extra hours available until August 3 under a special agreement.
Once completed, the pool will be named Mundy Park Pool to align with its location in Coquitlam’s largest urban forest, easing facility location for residents.
The new pool is tailored for current and future demands, doubling the number of drop-in swimmers and increasing swimming lessons by 50%.
Construction has benefited from significant infrastructure funding, receiving over $4.43 million from governmental bodies to bolster its sustainability and accessibility plans.
