Explore the natural beauty of Coquitlam’s watershed and learn about its water system
Register now for a tour of the pristine Coquitlam Watershed on Sunday, August 4. Discover the natural beauty of British Columbia during this unique experience.
The tour offers two time slots, highlighting drinking water infrastructure, old-growth forests with Western red cedars and Douglas-firs, a historical 1913 water intake tower, and breathtaking views of the watershed, Coquitlam Island, and Coquitlam Lake. Event and registration details can be accessed at coquitlam.ca/WatershedTour.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with 30 spaces available per tour. Scheduled times are 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 – 4 p.m. Admission to the tour is free.
These tours, hosted by Metro Vancouver, are open to adults and youth ages 13 and over.
To register, email WaterConservation@coquitlam.ca and use ‘Watershed Tour’ in the subject line. Include the number of participants in your party and your preferred tour time.
A Family Watershed Tour is also available for those attending with children aged three to 12, with registration details on the Metro Vancouver website.
Registered participants will depart from Coquitlam Town Centre by bus for a 3.5-hour guided tour of the restricted-access watershed and water supply area. Visit coquitlam.ca/WatershedTour for logistics and pick-up location details.
These technical tours involve several stops, light hiking, and walking on uneven terrain. Participants need to be able to board the bus unaided and manage walking on rough paths.
Comfortable, sturdy shoes, and layered clothing are recommended due to potential cooler forest temperatures.
Participants will gain insight into the region’s water supply system through guided stops, presentations, and an interactive Story Map titled ‘From Reservoir to Tap’ by the City of Coquitlam.
