Residents encouraged to apply for Neighbourhood Small Grants to connect communities
Coquitlam residents have the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $500 for community projects starting September 9 until October 15. These Neighbourhood Small Grants are designed to encourage social connections and the sharing of skills among local residents.
The grants, available through an online application at coquitlam.ca/NeighbourhoodGrants, are intended for social gatherings, community-building projects, and workshops, among other activities. Projects can include anything from hosting a block party to a skills exchange workshop.
The initiative is powered by partnerships with the Coquitlam Foundation, Vancouver Foundation, and the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC. The program is aimed at individuals or informal groups, excluding businesses and registered organizations.
The funds can cover costs such as materials or honorariums up to $100. All funded activities must be free to the public. Interested parties can find project examples on the Neighbourhood Small Grant website for inspiration.
Applications will be reviewed post-October 15, with successful applicants notified during the fall. Project completion is encouraged by December 31, with participants invited to celebrate outcomes through stories and pictures.
Aligned with Coquitlam’s efforts to build welcoming neighborhoods, these grants are part of a broader strategy including programs like Neighbourhood Nights and block party grants.
Non-profit organizations interested in similar funding can apply for the Spirit of Coquitlam Grant through coquitlam.ca/grants.
Community members can stay informed about city updates through newsletters, social media, and the CoquitlamConnect mobile app.
