Residents to learn about provincial housing changes in October sessions.

Coquitlam is hosting two public information sessions in October to educate residents about the city’s implementation of provincial housing legislation changes aimed at increasing housing options.

The city has been proactive in supporting housing supply and affordability. The new provincial changes focus on balancing community growth with sound governance and responsible financial planning.

Residents are invited to the information sessions where they can view materials, speak to city staff, and discuss impacts on neighborhoods and future development.

The sessions are scheduled for October 3 at Town Centre Park Community Centre and October 9 at Coquitlam Bettie Allard YMCA, both from 5 to 8 p.m.

Presentation materials will be available online at LetsTalkCoquitlam.ca/ProvincialHousingChanges starting October 4, with options to provide feedback.

Recent legislative changes require Coquitlam to adjust resident experiences, including reducing public hearings and removing parking requirements for new developments.

The changes impact how the city funds amenities like parks and recreation centers, possibly affecting project schedules or future property taxes.

To keep up with the ongoing implementation, residents can access information through various channels listed on the city’s website.
