Residents and visitors invited to participate in online survey regarding future developments near SkyTrain stations.
The City of Coquitlam is calling on residents and visitors of Southwest Coquitlam to provide insights on future developments in the area. The focus is on regions near SkyTrain stations and key corridors like Como Lake and Austin Avenue.
Participate in the decision-making process by completing the online survey at LetsTalkCoquitlam.ca/TransitOrientedAreas before November 3.
Following the 2023 provincial housing legislation, areas surrounding SkyTrain stations have been designated as Transit-Oriented Areas, allowing for increased density and taller buildings.
Coquitlam aims to ensure growth aligns with community needs by balancing the new regulations with a review of surrounding areas to facilitate a smooth building transition and sustainable development.
The ongoing study also targets planning for Austin and Como Lake corridors, drawing on feedback to shape future housing, dining, and community spaces.
The city’s Transit-Oriented Areas Update entails a phased approach, currently focusing on aligning plans around Burquitlam, Lougheed, and other specified areas with provincial directives.
Future phases will address land use reviews, including affordable housing requirements and supporting infrastructure for areas not previously planned for such developments.
Information and updates about the city’s efforts in housing legislation adaptation are accessible at LetsTalkCoquitlam.ca/ProvincialHousingChanges. The city also offers various platforms for updates, including email subscriptions and social media.
