Residents advised to prepare as city implements preventative measures

Coquitlam residents are advised to prepare for up to 90 mm of rain and high streamflow in local rivers over the next 36 hours. Though this rainfall is expected to be less intense than the recent atmospheric river, there is still a risk of localized flooding.

The city is taking preventive measures, including clearing catch basins and inspecting culverts in problem areas. Crews are on standby to respond to emerging situations.

The River Forecast Centre has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for coastal B.C., including Metro Vancouver, warning of potential minor flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents are urged to stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and to prepare for possible flooding. Visit the PreparedBC website for more information.

Localized flooding can occur if drain pipes are blocked. Residents can help by clearing gutters and catch basins and ensuring foundation drains are unblocked.

Stay informed about fallen trees and avoid hiking through forested parks during the storm. Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution while traveling in heavy rain.

Report emergency drainage problems to Coquitlam’s Engineering and Public Works line or use the Online Service Request form available 24/7.
