New plan aims to enhance library services for Coquitlam’s growing community over next three decades.

The Library Services and Spaces Strategy, developed in collaboration with Coquitlam Public Library, offers a roadmap for libraries that will support Coquitlam’s expanding and diverse population.

Coquitlam Public Library is a cherished hub for learning, culture, and fostering community connections. As the city grows, careful planning for future library development will ensure these spaces continue to meet the evolving needs of the community.

Long-term financial planning and phased capital investments are crucial for building a library system that accommodates a larger population. Guided by community feedback and best practices in library design, the strategy envisions an accessible, flexible, and efficient library system aligned with the City’s goals.

The strategy outlines library development for the next 30 years. Highlights include a ‘Hub-and-Spoke’ model featuring a main hub library and strategically placed satellite ‘spoke’ libraries, ensuring access and efficiency throughout the community.

Coquitlam’s libraries will focus on flexibility and inclusivity, offering adaptable spaces for a range of activities from cultural programs to digital learning. They will prioritize accessibility and sustainable design to cater to diverse community needs.

With Coquitlam’s population growth, the strategy plans phased expansions including a new neighborhood branch in the Northeast Community Centre and possible future branches in Burquitlam.

The Library Services and Spaces Strategy, backed by City Council and the Coquitlam Public Library Board, incorporates library planning into the City’s long-term facilities and funding plans, ensuring spaces remain accessible and inclusive.

The Coquitlam Public Library continues to innovate, providing programs and resources that enrich the community. Residents can explore offerings at coqlibrary.ca and stay updated through social media and newsletters.
