Residents can support local groups through tree-chipping events.
Make a difference this holiday season by recycling your natural Christmas tree at a local tree-chipping event. Not only will you reduce waste and give your tree back to nature, but you’ll also help support local community groups that benefit Coquitlam residents.
Tree-chipping events, hosted in partnership with local organizations, are by donation and raise funds for group activities and programs. These efforts also align with Coquitlam’s Environmental Sustainability Plan, which promotes responsible waste management and community collaboration.
The City is proud to support the following groups in turning trees into mulch while making a positive impact in our community:
Organization: Friends of Mundy Park Heritage Society Location: Mundy Park – Hillcrest Parking Lot, 641 Hillcrest Street Dates: Saturday, January 4 and Sunday, January 5 Time: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Organization: Kinsmen Club of Coquitlam Location: Town Centre Park – Lot A Dates: Saturday, January 4 and Sunday, January 5 Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Organization: Scouts francophone de Maillardville Location: Canadian Tire Parking Lot, 1200 Seguin Drive Date: Saturday, January 4 Time: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Please ensure trees are free of any stands, decorations, tinsel or flocking.
Additional recycling options are available. Natural trees can be placed in the Green Cart if they are cut into 1-metre lengths, branches are under 10 cm in diameter, and the lid closes completely. Trees can also be dropped off free of charge at the United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre, located at 995 United Boulevard, with proof of Coquitlam residency required.
For more information on tree disposal, contact United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre at 604-681-5600 or City of Coquitlam Solid Waste Operations at 604-927-4300. Further details are available at coquitlam.ca/TreeChipping.
Coquitlam finalized an Environmental Sustainability Plan in January 2022 that guides decisions and ensures the long-term resiliency and sustainability of the community. The plan is organized into five themes: Climate Action, Built Environment, Waste Management, Water Management, and Natural Areas, Wildlife, and Habitat. We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm, meaning ‘Red Fish Up the River’. The City is honored to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ and other Coast Salish Peoples.
