City crews are ready as residents are advised on safety measures amid upcoming snow and rain.

Winter weather is anticipated to hit Coquitlam as rain, freezing temperatures, and snow are in the forecast. Residents are urged to take precautionary measures to ensure safety during this period.

A weather system is expected to arrive Thursday, bringing heavy precipitation and potential snowfall at higher elevations through the weekend. Residents should prepare for slushy or icy conditions, affecting sidewalks, parking, and roads.

Coquitlam’s Public Works team has enhanced its snow response by increasing salt storage, adding covered sand storage, and upgrading vehicle fleet. These improvements allow for better resource management and environmental conservation.

Snowplows and salt trucks are already deployed, with crews brining and salting key routes. The city prioritizes clearing roads based on emergency and access needs.

The priority clearing system ensures safety: Priority 1 includes emergency and transit routes; Priority 2 involves roads to schools and care facilities; while Priority 3 covers remaining roads.

Residents play a vital role in maintaining safety. They are required to clear adjacent sidewalks within 10 hours of snowfall, and the Snow Angels program aids those with physical limits. Off-street parking is encouraged to facilitate plowing.

Prevent flooding by clearing basins of snow and debris. The Adopt-a-Catch Basin map provides insight into nearby locations. Report any flooding issues to the city.

Coquitlam’s Winter Wise program outlines measures to reduce winter weather impacts, with extensive salt storage and a capable snow fleet to manage the snow.
