Coquitlam plans a series of environmental events surrounding Earth Day.

Coquitlam will usher in Earth Day on April 22 with a week of eco-friendly workshops and activities aimed at fostering community involvement in local environmental conservation efforts.

Residents can meet municipal environmental personnel on April 22 from 1-3 p.m. at Town Centre Park near the Inspiration Garden. Participants will learn how to positively impact nature and can also receive a demonstration on installing the iNaturalist app for the City Nature Challenge.

The City is offering a Water Wise Bundle Sale from April 22-29. Residents can purchase a rain barrel and water timer at a discounted price. Orders can be made via email, with pickups available at City Hall or the Animal Shelter.

From April 25 to 28, Coquitlam will join partner municipalities in the City Nature Challenge, an event designed to collect and categorize species using the iNaturalist app. Metro Vancouver led Canada for unique species observations in 2024.

A Repair Café is slated for April 26, allowing residents to fix items for free at Maillardville Community Centre.

The city offers various gardening workshops from April 22 to 27, including Seed Pops, Compost Works, and more. Details can be found on the Coquitlam Earth Day website.

Tree Spree Tours will take place on April 25 and April 27. Attendees can join the Park Spark team to explore local creeks and forests, with the tours being free of charge. Registration is required.

Earth Day, marked on April 22 annually since 1970, has evolved from a protest against pollution to a worldwide call for environmental protection.
