Coquitlam welcomes back its renovated pool with new amenities and sustainable upgrades.
Mundy Park Pool is set to reopen on June 1, boasting a modern look and significant upgrades. Located at the edge of a forest, the pool aims to offer a summer of enjoyment and community engagement with its expanded outdoor space.
The renovation of Mundy Park Pool includes modern, accessible, and sustainable design features to serve Coquitlam’s growing population. The new facility replaces the original pool, which had served residents for over five decades, with additional features for recreational activities.
Ahead of the official reopening, early access swims will be available for residents in May, with registration beginning April 29. Dates for the early access swims can be found online starting April 25.
Mundy Park Pool’s renovations include a leisure pool with a gentle beach entry, a splash area, a water climbing wall, interactive water features, a lazy river, and a warming pool. Increased deck space, picnic tables, benches, and a concession stand add to the appeal for both relaxation and active use.
The updated pool will serve as a hub for various activities, including leisure swims and training for the Coquitlam Sharks Swim Club, with access starting May 1.
The enhancements are expected to attract over 16,000 visits each season, along with 2,250 participants engaged in swimming lessons and certification programs.
Accessibility and sustainability were priorities in the redesign, which now includes an accessible ramp to the lap pool and dive tank, universal change rooms, and improved admission areas. A new drop-off and pick-up zone and a universal washroom accessible year-round from Mundy Park are also available.
Sustainability efforts feature Air Source Heat Pumps for heating, pool covers to reduce energy use, LED lighting, and EV charging stations to promote eco-friendly transportation.
During its renovation, funding support was provided by federal and provincial grants totaling over $4.4 million through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
Situated amidst Coquitlam’s largest urban forest, Mundy Park Pool stands as an inclusive recreational destination, reflecting the city’s dedication to fostering well-being and sustainability for future generations.
