Coquitlam to see new recreation hub with state-of-the-art sports facilities by summer 2026.

Get ready, Coquitlam—construction kicks off this summer on the much-anticipated Burke Mountain Athletic Park, bringing new recreation and wellness options to our city.

Burke Mountain Athletic Park is a purpose-built, multi-use sports destination set to energize the community. From competitive play to casual recreation, it’s designed to bring people together through sport and shared experience.

Developed in partnership with School District 43, this state-of-the-art facility responds to Coquitlam’s growing demand for modern, accessible recreation spaces. Once complete, the athletic park will be a dynamic hub for physical activity and connection, featuring a 400-metre running track, a full-size artificial turf field, and tennis courts with lighting for year-round play. The track and turf field is funded in part by a $5 million contribution from Wesbild Holdings Limited.

Universal washrooms and other supporting amenities will ensure that this is an accessible space that serves our community. Construction is scheduled to be completed in summer 2026. Once open, Burke Mountain Athletic Park will offer multiple opportunities for local sports teams, fitness enthusiasts, and families alike. It will also support the neighbourhood’s future high and middle schools that are currently under development.

The City of Coquitlam is committed to building a vibrant, healthy, and connected community through strategic investment in high-quality parks, recreation, and cultural facilities. As the City continues to grow, so too does its dedication to providing inclusive, innovative spaces that inspire active living and support community well-being.

From weekend matches to early morning jogs, from tennis under the lights to school sports days—Burke Mountain Athletic Park will soon be the heartbeat of recreation in northeast Coquitlam.

The final design was shaped with valuable input from City Council, the Sports and Recreation Advisory Committee, and key stakeholders like the Coquitlam Field Sports Association. It reflects the community’s aspirations and builds upon the vision established in the City’s 2013-2023 Sports Field Strategy, while aligning with broader initiatives such as the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan and the Tennis and Pickleball Strategy.

This collaborative, forward-thinking approach ensures that Burke Mountain Athletic Park will grow with the community for years to come.
