Guildford Way and Pinetree Way to see significant improvements as part of Phase 2 of the transportation project.

Coquitlam residents and commuters will notice new traffic signals and road safety upgrades at the Guildford Way and Pinetree Way intersection on Tuesday, May 13, following the completion of Phase 2 of the Guildford Way Transportation Road Improvements project.

Those driving, walking, cycling, and using transit along Guildford Way are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the changes and new street design.

Phase 1 and 2 of the project have transformed the corridor with enhancements designed to improve safety, accessibility, and comfort. These include raised micromobility lanes for bikes and scooters, wider sidewalks with improved lighting, and upgraded bus stops.

Phase 2 improvements feature a dedicated right-turn lane to replace the previous slip lane, prohibited right turns on red, and protected left-turn arrows at the intersection.

The updates also include separated micromobility lanes, a leading pedestrian and micromobility interval at lights, and road repaving.

Improvements between Johnson Street and Pinetree Way include raised one-way micromobility lanes, wider sidewalks, and new curb ramps, meeting accessibility standards.

The upgrades are part of the city’s commitment to enhancing non-vehicle transportation, with aims aligned with the City’s draft Transportation Plan 2050, which includes reducing traffic fatalities and cutting transportation-related emissions.

Funding for the project phases came from various sources, including TransLink’s Municipal Cost Share Programs and the Province’s Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant.

A celebration and education event is scheduled for June 3, allowing residents to learn more about the infrastructure improvements.
