Community invited to event marking improvements to Guildford Way and Pinetree Way.

Walk, bike, roll or drive to Guildford Way and Pinetree Way on Tuesday, June 3, to join the celebration of recent transportation upgrades in Coquitlam. The event will be held at City Hall Plaza from 4 to 7 p.m.

Residents, transportation enthusiasts, and individuals of all abilities are encouraged to attend to learn about the changes made during Phase 2 of the project. The improvements span from Johnson Street to Pinetree Way and have been implemented to enhance community safety.

The event is scheduled to take place rain or shine and will include snacks and giveaways. Planned activities feature walking tours, free e-scooter and e-bike test rides by Lime, and a HUB Cycling Celebration Station offering free bike tune-ups.

TransLink will operate a community outreach bus and booth, and the Modo Carsharing Co-operative will have an educational stand. Further details are available at coquitlam.ca/GuildfordWay.

The celebration coincides with Coquitlam’s participation in Go by Bike Week, held annually in partnership with HUB Cycling. This year, Coquitlam will host two public celebration stations providing information on local cycling amenities.

The recent transformations along Guildford Way include raised lanes for micromobility devices and wider, well-lit sidewalks. Enhanced bus stop areas aim to benefit transit users, while efforts have been made to preserve mature trees.

Traffic changes to improve safety at Guildford Way and Pinetree Way include modifications such as no right turns on a red light and a protected intersection design, reportedly the first of its kind in the Tri-Cities.

The project is part of Coquitlam’s commitment to fostering a comprehensive Active Transportation Network, addressing safety concerns, and encouraging cycling and sustainable transport. Go by Bike Week further supports these efforts, encouraging residents to log their cycling trips for prize opportunities.
