City plans $140M investment to enhance community spaces

Creating vibrant, welcoming, and accessible community spaces is at the core of Coquitlam’s commitment to improving its parks and facilities.

From sports fields to libraries, the City is funding projects that promote shared experiences for residents, fostering a thriving community.

Coquitlam has outlined its 2025 plans for capital projects with a $140 million budget for both ongoing and upcoming developments. Key projects include the replacement of artificial turf at Charles Best Sports Field and Cunnings Field, the creation of a new park on Brunette City Lands, and the renovation of Mackin Yard at Mackin Park.

Significant 2025 initiatives involve revitalizing Norm Staff Park with new amenities such as a playground and sport court. Major projects under design include Burke Village Park and Fraser Mills Parks and Community Centre, which will offer extensive recreational and community facilities.

Completed projects include the restoration of the Austin Heights Fire Hall, expansion of the Austin Works Yard, upgrades at Eagle Ridge Park, and the renewal of Mundy Park Pool. The City is also improving facilities like the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex and Scott Creek Community Garden.

Amid rising construction costs, Coquitlam is seeking provincial and federal funding to ensure projects stay on track. Every investment aims to deliver lasting community value.
