A Regular Meeting of the Coquitlam City Council took place on June 9, 2025, at City Hall. Mayor Richard Stewart and all council members were in attendance, along with key staff.

The proceedings began with the adoption of the minutes from the previous meeting on May 12, 2025. This motion passed unanimously.

A significant portion of the meeting focused on planning and development issues. Discussions were held on Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing implementation and related zoning amendments, addressing public consultation, infrastructure concerns, and the impact on green spaces.

Council proceeded to adopt several bylaws aimed at facilitating and regulating these developments. These included zoning and housing agreement amendments, as well as procedural adjustments.

Another item of discussion was a development application at 290 Laval Square, where a housing agreement bylaw and a development permit were approved without opposition.

The council explored a similar application at 602 Sydney Avenue, emphasizing the importance of seniors housing, and approved both the housing agreement bylaw and the development permit unanimously.

Further legislative actions included adopting a subdivision and development servicing amendment bylaw, in addition to two new housing agreement bylaws aimed at increasing multi-bedroom unit availability.

A development proposal at Lougheed Highway and Guilby Street prompted dialogue on the inclusion of rentals and childcare services in new developments. Council authorized zoning amendments and a highway dedication cancellation.

The meeting addressed procedural extensions for development applications, aiming to ease developer transitions and enhance community housing projects.

Under community safety discussions, Coquitlam endorsed a submission to the 2025 UBCM Community Excellence Awards for their Building Safer Communities Program, discussing the sustainability of its funding.

Finally, preparations for the 2025 Union of British Columbia Municipalities Convention were made, with resolutions focused on development cost charges and financial stability. The meeting concluded with business related to festival and event strategies.
