City reveals plans for new facilities and park to serve Northeast Coquitlam

Coquitlam has introduced the schematic plans for the eagerly awaited community center on Burke Mountain and the nearby Burke Village Park, moving forward with plans to provide essential amenities to households in Northeast Coquitlam.

The Burke Mountain Community Center, formerly known as the Northeast Community Center, is set to offer a variety of services and amenities in a modern facility designed with community feedback in mind. The complex will feature a six-lane lap pool, leisure pool with a lazy river, hot pool, steam room, and sauna, all with accessible features.

Other highlights include a double gymnasium, a fully equipped fitness center, flexible rooms for gatherings and events, and a new branch of the Coquitlam Public Library. Large windows and a balcony will offer stunning views of the natural surroundings.

Committed to sustainability, the facility aims to meet the Zero Carbon Building Standard and achieve Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification.

Adjacent to the center, Burke Village Park will serve as a community hub featuring a splash pad, spaces for events, and access to a mountainside pathway. It will also include a protected area for local watercourses.

The park and community center are expected to enhance the neighborhood identity, with construction starting in 2026 and completion targeted for 2029.
