Glen Pine Pavilion and Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex offer relief as air quality worsens.
Coquitlam’s Glen Pine Pavilion and Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex have been designated as cleaner air spaces to provide temporary relief for those affected by the current air quality issues.
Both facilities have advanced air filtration systems to enhance indoor air quality, available for public use during their regular hours. Glen Pine Pavilion will operate on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the Poirier Complex is open both days over the weekend from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Additional city facilities are open to the public to help mitigate exposure to the poor air conditions. These include the Dogwood Pavilion, open Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Maillardville Community Centre, available Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Town Centre Park Community Centre, with hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Air quality is predicted to improve early next week with the change in weather. Residents can monitor real-time air quality information for Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley at airmap.ca and the BC Air Quality website.
Cleaner air spaces are indoor facilities with upgraded air handling systems to offer temporary relief during periods of poor air quality. Coquitlam’s facilities feature charcoal filters, updated mechanical systems for air recirculation, and air curtains at entrances.
Recommended personal measures to reduce exposure to poor air quality include keeping windows closed, using air conditioning in vehicles, limiting outdoor activities, staying hydrated, and using high-efficiency particulate air filters at home.
Residents should check on vulnerable individuals, such as those with health conditions or the elderly, as air quality remains poor.
