Aid targets individuals and organizations impacted by October flooding
The British Columbia government is extending Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) to eligible individuals, small businesses, farms, and charitable organizations in the Southwest Region of British Columbia, including Coquitlam. This initiative responds to the damage caused by an atmospheric river event that led to flooding from October 18 to 20, 2024.
The assistance program may cover eligible expenses, such as building repairs, replacement of essential personal effects, equipment and inventory, as well as cleanup and debris removal. Applicants may also seek aid for restoring essential uninsurable losses.
Eligibility requires contacting your insurance provider to confirm whether your policy covers the damage incurred. As part of the DFA qualification process, applicants must provide a letter from their insurer indicating the unavailability of insurance for the specific disaster-related losses.
Claims for assistance must be submitted within 90 days of the event declaration, with a final deadline set for February 23, 2025.
The Online DFA Application Portal is accessible through the DFA website to facilitate the application process.
