Volunteers sought to assist neighbors with snow removal this winter.
This winter, the City of Coquitlam is calling on its residents to volunteer as Snow Angels, assisting neighbors in need by clearing sidewalks after each snowfall.
The Snow Angels program, open to residents aged 16 or older, pairs volunteers with nearby neighbors across several communities, including Austin Heights, Como Lake, and Westwood Plateau. Volunteers must clear city sidewalks within 10 hours post-snowfall, equipped with gear provided by the city.
Participating offers various benefits, such as enhancing neighborhood safety, spending quality family time, satisfying community service requirements for graduation, and fostering community connections.
Interested individuals can sign up by visiting the city’s website at coquitlam.ca/SnowAngels. The program also assists residents aged 65 and older or those with mobility challenges, though volunteers cannot shovel private property.
Details and volunteer requirements can be found online, with staff available at 604-927-6076 or via email at CommunityServices@coquitlam.ca.
Simultaneously, Coquitlam’s Winter Wise program aims to mitigate winter weather impacts by encouraging residents to clear sidewalks, park vehicles off-street for plowing, and prepare for potential infrastructure disruptions.
