Coquitlam’s youth can explore firefighting careers through unique training opportunities.

Coquitlam Fire/Rescue, in collaboration with School District No. 43, is once again offering students a chance to experience a firefighter’s career through the Junior Firefighter Program.

Since its inception in 2019, 70 students have graduated from this program. The application process is now open for enthusiastic and driven students in grades 11 and 12, aiming to join the class of 2025.

Prospective participants must submit a detailed application form, partake in a personal interview, and undergo a fitness test to meet both academic and physical standards.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, December 6, 2024.

The program aims to attract a diverse group of students, including those with a genuine interest in firefighting. It provides participants with hands-on training experiences.

This program is a condensed version of the eight-week firefighter basic training, offering experiences with aerial ladders, basic first aid, CPR/AED, as well as drills and exercises such as hose and nozzle handling, high-angle equipment rappelling, auto extrication, and fire ground services.
