Residents can dispose of extra yard trimmings at no cost from October 21 to November 28.
As the leaves begin to fall, residents of Coquitlam receiving collection service from the City can take advantage of free curbside pickup for additional yard waste from October 21 to November 28. This seasonal service allows for convenient disposal of extra yard trimmings on regular collection days.
The six-week yard trimmings collection program operates twice a year, aiding citizens in managing the additional green waste from seasonal cleanups—such as fallen leaves, grass clippings, and pruned branches. More than 450 tonnes of yard waste are collected annually through this initiative, maintaining tidy yards and clean streets.
To participate, residents should place extra yard trimmings in old garbage cans labeled with a Yard Trimmings sticker, in kraft paper bags, or in bundles tied with twine for curbside pickup. Free Yard Trimmings stickers are available at Coquitlam City Hall’s Engineering counter, Town Centre Recycling Depot, or at the City Centre and Poirier Public Libraries.
Here are key details for smooth collection:
Ensure all extra yard trimmings are set out by 7:30 a.m. on your collection day. Different trucks may collect extra yard waste at times separate from the Green Cart pickup. While bundles, cans, and kraft bags can be prepared early, City-issued Green Carts should only be set out after 5:30 a.m. to avoid fines, even if they contain only yard trimmings.
Branches should be in bundles no longer than 1 meter in length and less than 7.5 centimeters in diameter. Each bag, can, or bundle should not exceed 20 kilograms.
Excluded materials include sod, rocks, soil, and plastic bags, while food scraps should remain in the regular Green Cart.
Please position materials curbside without obstructing sidewalks or streets. If rain is expected, cover kraft bags with a tarp and delay setting them out until morning to prevent water damage.

Additionally, Coquitlam residents can drop off green waste year-round and free of charge at the United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre, with proof of residency required. Accepted materials include various yard and food waste items, subject to annual limits.
Residents can receive collection reminders through email, phone, or app notifications, covering statutory holidays and disruptions due to weather. Visit coquitlam.ca/ReCollect to access these notifications or download the collection reminder app from app stores.

The city appreciates and acknowledges that the name Coquitlam comes from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm, meaning ‘Red Fish Up the River’. Coquitlam is proud to be on the traditional and ancestral lands of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm, including parts historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ and other Coast Salish Peoples.
