Coquitlam celebrates successful year with Repair Café event, encouraging community and sustainability.

Coquitlam will host its one-year anniversary Repair Café on Saturday, October 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pinetree Community Centre, inviting residents to bring their items for free repairs.

The City will honor its volunteers, who have successfully repaired almost 200 items over the past year. More information can be found at coquitlam.ca/RepairCafe.

Repair Cafés are events where community members bring items such as clothing, furniture, and electronics to be repaired for free by volunteers, fostering a learning environment.

This event marks the beginning of Circular Economy month, promoting sustainable practices beyond the traditional ‘take-make-waste’ model.

The circular economy emphasizes designing products for longevity, encouraging both manufacturers and consumers to prioritize sustainability.

Coquitlam supports the circular economy through various initiatives, including recycling programs, the Waste Wizard tool, and a Curbside Collection app.

The City seeks community members with repair skills to join their team of dedicated Repair Café volunteers.
