The Coquitlam City Council held its regular meeting on February 10, 2025, at City Hall, with Mayor Richard Stewart and all council members present.

An acknowledgment of indigenous territorial lands was given by the Mayor at the start of the meeting. An on-table report regarding the appointment to the Sustainability and Environmental Advisory Committee was introduced to the agenda.

Approval was swiftly granted for minutes from the previous council meeting and a public hearing, both held on January 27, 2025.

The delegation from School District No. 43 discussed promoting Real Acts of Caring Week, receiving commendations from the council.

Discussions included a zoning amendment for a development application at 717 Edgar Avenue, which was approved unanimously.

Amendments to support development viability were discussed, focusing on development cost charges and procedural changes. These were approved to enhance flexibility and security in the planning process.

The Housing Accelerator Fund’s progress was reported, highlighting the city’s challenges in meeting housing targets due to external factors. The report will be submitted to relevant provincial authorities.

Concerns about development at 2929 Barnet Highway by Morguard Investments were reviewed, with the application referred back for clarification on variances.

Policy updates for structures beneath public streets were approved, aiming for better management of road closures and under-road encroachments.

Support was given for Coquitlam Fire’s application to the FireSmart Community Funding program, with a focus on enhancing community wildfire resilience.

Amendments to the 2025 Council Meeting Schedule were approved to accommodate future engagements.

Azar Varasteh was appointed to the Sustainability and Environmental Advisory Committee, set to begin their term in 2025–2026.

Concluding the meeting, the council agreed to reconvene on February 24, 2025, ending the session at 8:29 p.m.
