The Coquitlam City Council held its regular meeting on March 31, 2025, at City Hall. The meeting commenced with Mayor Richard Stewart and all Council members present, along with key staff.

At the meeting’s start, the Mayor gave a territorial acknowledgment and wished Eid’l Fitr to the Muslim community. The minutes from the March 10 session were quickly approved.

Economic development was a prime topic, with the Council unanimously approving recommendations from a recent Economic Development Advisory Committee meeting, including the 2025 Work Plan.

The 2025 budget for Coquitlam Public Library received unanimous backing, reflecting recent updates and alterations.

In development matters, the council approved significant zoning amendments and permits for properties at Harrison Avenue, Kemsley Avenue, and Clarke Road, ensuring compliance with recent plans for these areas.

Housing strategies dominated discussions, emphasizing family-sized units and below-market rentals. New housing agreements were introduced, repealing previous ones to accommodate these critical changes.

The council debated contributions to the Affordable Housing Reserve Fund, signaling its importance in ongoing housing projects. Approval was given for a significant contribution to the Community Land Trust.

High-density developments were prioritized for industrial lands at 2450 United Boulevard, with potential for multi-story complexes to blend commercial and residential needs.

Further discussions involved neighborhood developments and infrastructure needs, particularly concerning emergency access, parking, and provision of amenities around Edgar Avenue.

The council also saw discussion on efforts to maintain diverse housing, with emphasis on the need for family-oriented units in new projects on Thompson Avenue.

Finally, the Council decided to defer discussions on a Metro Vancouver report to the April 14 meeting, and the session adjourned at 8:38 p.m.
